Carthamus dried flowers or dried Safflower or dried Bidens. Indestructible, strong dried flowers. Available online in various colors.
Carthamus Tinctorius, Bidens or Safflower are really interesting dried flowers. They are grown, harvested and dried in the Netherlands, but are also grown for their oils and the seeds are used for dyes. The flower and oil from the seeds are used as medicine. Safflower seed oil is used for high cholesterol, heart disease, stroke, diabetes, to prevent scarring and many other conditions, but there is no good scientific evidence to support these uses.
They are also popular as cut and dried flowers and look beautiful in combination with Achillea Parker and Phalaris or Canary grass or other dried flowers. Safflower is a highly branched, herbaceous, thistle-like annual plant in the Asteraceae family. It was used by the early Spanish colonies along the Rio Grande as a substitute for saffron. The plants are 30 to 150 cm high with spherical flower heads with yellow, orange or red flowers. Each branch usually has one to five flower heads. Our dried Safflower or Bidens are on average 60 to 65 centimeters long and are available in many colors.
