These fantastically beautiful bunches of thistles, or Echinops, have an intense deep blue colour, if they are in the window or if a certain sunlight falls on it, you can also discover a hint of purple in these dried flowers. Ball thistles, like almost all other types of thistles, are quite prickly. It is therefore not surprising that the scientific name Echinops is derived from the Greek word 'Echinos' which in turn means "hedgehog".
